Giorgio Bertone Refuge can be found 2000 metres above sea level in the Val d'Aoste located in the Pennine Alps in the town of Courmayeur. Situated in the North Eastern section of the residential area in front of Mont Blanc, it can be found on the Alta Via 1 public footpath in the Val d'Aoste.The refuge was built in 1982 in memory of the climber Giorgio Bertone who died in a plane crash on Mont Blanc du Tacul in 1977.It is possible to get to the refuge by taking a scenic trip from Plampincieux at the start of Val Ferret.We recommend stopping at the viewing station where there is an unrivalled viewOtherwise, you can get to the refuge from Courmayeur via the Val Sapin.

1) Via le Val Ferret, set out from the bridge just before Plampincieux where there is a sign showing the route towards Refuge Bertone trail no 31: a two hour journey. An evocative and scenic route along Le Grand Balcon footpath offering unparalleled views of Mont Blanc the whole way. Ideal for families with children and for taking fantastic photos!2) Via le Val Sapin, set out from the Villair Superiore area of Courmayeur via trail no 42: a 1 and a half hour journey along a slightly steeper trail for more experienced hikers.
